Benelux

Hello everybody and happy rainy Sunday! I have spent most of this morning eating cake (it is definitely edible by the way) and drinking tea, so it seems that a run in the forest could do some good in order to avoid too much sudden tummy growth.

Anyhow, I and a friend are in the planning stages of a really cool project, and now we need your help. Have you ever been to the Netherlands, Belgium and/or Luxembourg? Do you live there by any chance?

If you have, then please tell us which cities, towns, villages and random places are worth a visit in these countries. We would really appreciate your help!

I wish I would have known, that...

... falling asleep during physics and chemistry wasn't  such a good idea. Life would be a lot easier these days if I knew what hydrocarbon is. It could also be helpful when translating the following sentence:
"...when properly bonded together and subjected to specific levels of optical and heat energy from various sources this composite material creates a passive energy field."

So, that is one of the things I do. Sometimes. Translations. Translating is mostly a fun activity: it's like a jigsaw puzzle where you have to find the right pieces to re-create the masterpiece, re-write the story (or the manual, which is less fun). You play with words, expressions. It can also be fairly educational: it gives you the chance to catch up on all that information you slept through in school (although nanotechnology might not have been invented back then).

Right. And the point is... nothing much really. Except that sometimes work can be quite interesting.

Cake

Hah, I just made my first cake EVER [as I don’t like eating cake, I’ve never bothered to learn how to make it]. It looks like a real mess, but hopefully my mother [it’s Mother’s Day tomorrow] won’t be too suspicious to at least take a bite. It tastes of raspberries, vanilla, chocolate, and coffee among other things.

Now, would you dare to eat this?

Now it’s time for ice-hockey, Finland is playing against Denmark in the world championships in Germany.

Travelling Lightly

The ability to travel lightly doesn’t seem to be genetic. Whereas my mother can throw everything she needs for two weeks in a tiny bag, I can’t even leave the house without bringing half my stuff with me, just in case.

The plan is to stay away from home for one (1) day, but all the folloing items were still absolutely necessary: laptop, charger, ½ of the items of makeup bag, Hungarian dictionary, three notebooks, Hungarian work book, mp3 player (which needs to be charged), journal, a little something to read on the bus, a bottle of wine (gift), pencil case with about 10 pens (in different colours, of course), PJs, a pair of trousers, two t-shirts, camera, mobile phone (which doesn’t work).

Will I need any of this stuff? Not likely.

Excited about the trip to Stockholm tomorrow. Yup. Yet another one. This one will be dedicated to translation and the hunt for a pair of sunnies.
Sad because a good friend is leaving. And nobody knows when she will return.
Guilty for having eaten too much. No comments.
Tired from too much swimming. Didn’t drown this time either.
Happy that the sun is still shining at 9.30 p.m. There is nothing as beautiful as summer near the Arctic Circle. Nothing in the whole world.

Interested in the book that came with the post today. How come all books on positive psychology are yellow?
Lucky to have such a great family and friends. It was so nice talking to an old friend from Slovakia this morning (pozdravy Ivane, ja viem, ze čítas!!).
Thankful for all the possibilities life is throwing at me. Adventures!!
Thrilled at the prospect of travelling. Open invitations include the States and Tokyo. Well, Spain could be a good start.
Surprised that it’s possible to sleep 9 hours. And still need a nap shortly afterwards.
Intrigued to know what will happen with Greece. How badly can a country behave before being thrown out of the EU?
Optimistic about the future, Everything will be alright.
Annoyed at all those striking people. Or, more precisely, at the employers who don’t treat their people right.
Disappointed that some people can be such idiots. But we already knew that.
Frustrated about that EU-exam. When will I get it done?
Enjoying green tea with ginseng and raspberry. Yummy.






How do you feel today?

...because I’m worth it!

This evening I will be celebrating with good (and silly) books and yummy drinks... because I’m worth it. Turns out I got really good results in my exams and today the new job was confirmed. And it’s the kind of job that perfectly fits into my current lifestyle, so whoop, whoop!!!

Boom!

Inspiration always hits you when you least expect it. The computer was already switched off, the plans for the rest of the evening were already made, and then boom: the sudden urge to do some work on a couple of projects appeared from nowhere. It’s nice, exciting even, to have a couple of ideas to work on.

Long Night Ahead

I will try to learn Hungarian verbs by heart and Tomi will be giving me moral support. Doesn’t she look extremely interested in her task?
Just realised that it’s not much left of spring term so it might actually be a good idea to start learning something.

French

In order to finish my eternal love-hate relationship with the French language, I thought that my readers, family and friends could make the decision for me. Now the decision has been made  - it was a tough one indeed, a draw until yesterday when the girls decided, after quite a few bottles of wine (none of which was French by the way), that the answer would be yes. 

My plan does not involve moving to France or even speaking with a Frenchman, all I want to do is read some French writers without the need of a dictionary. In order to get this thing going, I have decided to set myself a goal: read three books in French over the summer.  

From earlier experience in Romance languages, it is beyond all doubt that you will not hear the following phrase quite a lot in the near future:
