Hello From Vienna!

After a tough autumn with lots of work and school, these two weeks of holidays are more than welcome!

Today we will have spent some time in four countries: Slovakia, Austria, Germany and Sweden. That’s kinda cool me thinks.

Places: Vienna

It hit me. I have not dedicated a single post to Vienna. One of the imperial capitals of Europe, one of the cities everybody knows. It is a city where history was written, where big decisions were made.

Why not, why didn’t I write about it? Maybe because I don’t like Vienna too much. It’s a city that doesn’t feel very friendly, it’s difficult to get a grasp of it. It’s grandiose, it’s also beautiful. But it’s not for me.

It takes about an hour between Vienna and Bratislava on the train, the perfect day trip. The trip is cheap and comfortable. I have been there several times and will probably go there more times. Maybe it will grow on me once I find those hidden cosy places.

The last time I was in Vienna was a while back (September, October, who can recall with the time flying) when my parents were visiting. We had a nice day walking around. Here are some photos. (some? at least the city is extremely photogenic!!) – We could also play a game: spot the balloons Smile

Places: Hainburg an der Donau

Yesterday J and I decided to take a quick day trip to the other side of the border. Hainburg an der Donau is a small – but cosy – little town on the other side of the Danube and some 20 minutes from Bratislava.

Going West.

…again. But only for the day. But this is the second Sunday in a row that I’m going to Austria.

Other places on the list to visit this spring.

  • Belgrade: on the train from Budapest to Bratislava, we realised that the train was actually coming from Belgrade and after that we’ve had an inexplicable urge to head down south.
  • Prague: it’s the new year’s resolution to go to Prague in January 2013. And those have to be kept, right?
  • Cracow: also a must place to see. One of the cities in Poland that I haven’t been to yet.
  • Valencia: a friend of mine and I were talking about what to do for Easter and this is our master plan. Palm trees, sunshine, friendly people and errr… fit eye candy is nothing we won’t say no to Smile

Now I need to run to the super market (fingers crossed it’s open) before running to the train station (fingers crossed they sell tickets).

Have a nice week, everyone!

Walking Abroad

So. This is what my facebook status read just a moment ago:

“This morning I woke up with a sudden urge to go abroad. So, after the morning coffee, I put on my running shoes and walked to Austria. It is geeky indeed, but there's just something so very cool about being able to walk abroad (even though it's just around the corner!)” A great walk it was, as well.
