Thoughts on the role of the Finnish national broadcasting company (YLE) in offering alternatives to the traditional gender roles. Here it is informed that the company actively strives to show such children's programs that avoid stereotypes and clichés and offer alternatives that widen the understanding of what boys and girls are or “should” be.  (from Hufvudstadsbladet, Monday 17.9.2012)

In My Bed.

DSCN4728

Two blankets. Two pillows in a lovely shade of pink. Polish poetry about love, the Imperfectionists, a magazine that tells us how to lose x kilos in two weeks, some flash cards and a pen. And this furry lady is keeping me company while dedicating herself to ear-scratching and  paws-licking. My head is a bit blurred, but it’s time to wake up now. To draft a plan for the week ahead and then munch on pear ice cream drowning in colourants and dive into the fascinating world of international relations. Or possibly writing.

Tomi (and her new friend)

Name: Tomi, named after Finnish ice-hockey player Tomi Kallio.
Age: 8 or 9 years old
Breed: partly Norwegian Forest Cat, partly godknowswhat.
Hobbies: being cuddled with, climbing trees, chasing birds and sleeping in warm places (preferably on top of people)
Favourite food: fresh fish
Special skills: can support the Finnish ice-hockey team to victory.
Random facts: prefers to enter the house through the window instead of the door.

Today I also became an auntie, and Tomi has a new playmate (whom she still hasn’t met).  The new baby loves to bite people’s toes, is fast like a hurricane and also likes to cuddle. She also seems to have a passion for eating innocent teddy bears.

For All Her Fans

DSCN4147

Ok, let’s try to get some attention from Alf. I am the queen of the house and I demand cuddles.

DSCN4149

Alf didn’t notice me, he’s so mean. Time for revenge, let’s eat his crisps.

DSCN4151

Fresh fish and scared rats taste so much better. Humans must be really strange, eating this kind of tasteless junk. But wait, I still need some cuddles. Who’ll be my next victim?

Meow!

I present to you: the sweetest fur ball on this side of the Arctic Circle (even if she drools on everyone she’s in love with). But you already knew that. She’s been sleeping on top of me two nights in a row now,

Great News Thinks I!

Guess who’s going to Scandinavia for 9 whole days next month. Moi! I’ll get to attend classes on philosophy, eat delicious food with Kicki, enjoy the darkness and the cold, and maybe even see some SNOW. And cuddle with the cat. Whoop!

Maybe I’ll even find my favourite hoodie ever somewhere among all the stuff that I have to go through in order to find my winter clothes:

Temporary Corner

DSCN3808

This is a little corner, occupied by me and Tomi, that’s perfect for anything and everything: it doesn’t matter whether you’ll be studying, cuddling, reading, writing, just reflecting on life, or cleaning yourself: this is the place to be.

This is another sweetie that I could bring to Spain along with the cat (just don’t ask me what all the stuff in the background is). She’s simple, but yet efficient; colourful but stylish. We went on a great journey today, she and I, all the way to the super market to buy some coffee for my coffee-drinking-monster-parents-and-brothers. It’s really autumn now: the nature is changing its colours, the green is turning into red, yellow and brown. The air is fresher, the wind is stronger.

There is nothing better in the world than exercising outside: the endorphins give you a great kick, while the nature fills you with inspiration. Someone (and I really can’t remember who) once said that all the best ideas came to him/her while s/he was out running. All I can say is that I agree.
